Thanks Savvy, and thanks to all who dialed in. We discussed such things as how to get precinct caucuses active, different features offered by free conference call vendors, and how to book good guest speakers for precinct caucuses. It was a pleasure to hear from out of state callers, including new affiliate from Colorado who learned of AIP from Pat Jenkins of The National 912 Project.

Our next scheduled Maryland Independent Party conference call is the Rockville precinct caucus on Tuesday night starting at 8:00 pm eastern. Rockville High School was closed Friday due to a probable H1N1 flu case involving a student whose family had not been traveling recently, so the student would be the first case here involving local, social transmission. We'll adjourn in time for folks to dial-in to the national call starting at 9:00 pm eastern.

What better way could there possibly be, to kick off this 4th of July, than to talk with other God-fearing, liberty-loving, sovereignty-conserving Americans? All of good will are welcome.

* Democrats hit Ehrlich for his support for Steele, citing Steele's irresponsible spending (email from DNC)
email
From: DNCRapidResponse@dncpress.dnc.org
Subject: He said this with a straight face alert
Date: April 8, 2010 3:54 PM EDT

Ehrlich says his campaign is about wasteful spending then defends Steele… with a straight face.

“You can’t say you’re running to take on 'wasteful spending' in one breath and in the next endorse as 'capable'  Michael Steele who spent donor funds entrusted to him on a personal private plane habit, redecorating his office and bondage-themed sex clubs.  Not with a straight face anyway.  Or with an ounce of credibility.  As Ehrlich himself admits 'the burn rate has been pretty quick.'  And by standing by Michael Steele’s irresponsible spending spree, Ehrlich’s credibility is burning up pretty quickly too,” said DNC National Press Secretary Hari Sevugan.

Ehrlich launches campaign based on controlling spending

Ehrlich plans to criticize “wasteful spending.” “Ehrlich, who has criticized his successor over what he sees as wasteful spending and tax increases, hit O’Malley for the way he spent federal stimulus dollars, calling the money a “short term budget band-aid.” [Politico, 4/8/10]

BUT… stands by Steele as “capable” despite Chariman’s spending spree

Ehrlich “stood by Steele” after controversy surrounding profligate spending, calling him “capable.”  “Weighing in on the controversy surrounding Michael Steele, his former lieutenant governor who now serves as Republican National Committee chairman, Ehrlich said he stood by Steele, calling him “capable” and “loyal.”  [Politico, 4/8/10]

“Ehrlich's strategy is to defend Steele” [TPM, 4/8/10]

Ehrlich admits RNC “burn rate is pretty quick.” "The burn rate has been pretty quick," Ehrlich told DC's NewsChannel8 in an interview yesterday. Spending was at the center of the controversy that led to the resignation of RNC chief of staff Ken McKay this week. Critics from inside and outside the GOP have condemned Steele's RNC for spending thousands on questionable purchases like parties at topless bars.” [TPM, 4/8/10]

Baltimore archdiocese sues over pro-life signage
Pregnancy crisis center could be fined
By Julia Duin

The Archdiocese of Baltimore has filed a lawsuit on behalf of the country's oldest crisis pregnancy center, claiming the city has enacted a biased ordinance that discriminates against pro-life organizations.

In a lawsuit filed last week in federal court, the archdiocese took on a new city ordinance - which had heavy backing from pro-choice and feminist groups - that requires crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) to post prominent signs stating they do not dispense contraception nor perform abortions.

According to the archdiocese, it is the first such ordinance in the country.

Arnold man enters race
An Arnold man has entered the 1st District congressional race as an Independent.
Jack N. Wilson Sr. said, in an announcement, both the Democratic and Republican parties have ignored the public's wishes.
Wilson, who has appeared at events sponsored by the Tea Party movement, said his goals if elected include balancing the federal budget by reducing spending, repealing the recent overhaul health care legislation while still reforming the system, and reducing federal government's involvement in citizens' lives.
"A mounting national debt and ever increasing budget deficits are crippling economic growth and the future competitiveness of our country," he said in a prepared statement.
Wilson is seeking to unseat U.S. Rep. Frank Kratovil, an Eastern Shore Democrat in his first term. State Sen. Andy Harris also has announced his plans for a rematch of his 2006 race against Kratovil.
Wilson is a semi-retired owner of an electrical contracting business, Navy veteran and former union steam fitter.
He plans to hold a campaign kickoff event from 2 to 7 p.m. April 18 at the Columbian Center, 335 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park.
The district includes the Eastern Shore, parts of Baltimore and Harford counties, as well as sections of Pasadena, Severna Park and the Broadneck Peninsula.
